Indian Nationalism & contemporary International Development

Role of contemporary International Development in rising of Indian Nationalism

The 19th century was the age of nationalist transformation in Europe. During the Opening Decades of the 19th century Spanish, Germans, Italians fought against Napoleonic imperialism.

  • In 1830, Belgium declared independence from Holland.
  • During the 1850s and 1860s, Germans and Italians struggled hard to carry out their national unification. When Germany and Italy emerged as a unified nation in 1870, nationalism gained popularity all over the world. This impact was felt in India as well.

The ideas of the American Revolution of 1776 and the French Revolution of 1789 also inspired Indian nationalists. American Revolution was the first expression of nationalism in a modern sense.
