The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducted the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (CSE), 2023 on May 28, 2023 at 79 centres across India. The exam was held in offline mode and candidates had to mark their responses on an OMR sheet. The exam consisted of two papers: General Studies Paper-I and General Studies Paper-II (CSAT). Both papers were of objective type and had negative marking for wrong answers.
UPSC Question Paper Analysis
The UPSC IAS Prelims 2023 question paper was divided into four sets: A, B, C and D. The difficulty level of the paper varied from set to set. According to some experts and candidates, the GS Paper-I was moderate to difficult, while the CSAT paper was easy to moderate. The GS Paper-I had questions from various topics such as history, geography, polity, economy, environment, science and technology, current affairs and art and culture. The CSAT paper had questions from comprehension, logical reasoning, analytical ability, data interpretation, basic numeracy and decision making.

UPSC IAS Prelims Exam 2023: General Studies Paper – 1
The UPSC IAS Prelims Exam 2023: General Studies Paper – 1 is one of the two papers that candidates have to attempt in the first stage of the Civil Services Examination. The paper consists of 100 multiple-choice questions from various topics such as history, geography, polity, economy, environment, science and technology, and current affairs. The paper is conducted in offline mode and candidates have to mark their responses on an OMR sheet. The paper carries a total of 200 marks and has a negative marking of one-third for each wrong answer. The paper tests the candidates’ general awareness and understanding of the subjects as well as their ability to apply them in different situations. UPSC CSAT: Paper 2
The UPSC CSAT: Paper 2 Question paper is one of the two papers that candidates are required to attempt in the preliminary stage of the Civil Services Examination. This paper contains 80 multiple-choice questions covering various topics including comprehension, logical reasoning, analytical ability, data interpretation, basic numeracy, and decision making. The examination is conducted in offline mode, and participants are provided with an OMR sheet to mark their answers. The paper is worth a total of 200 marks and carries a negative marking of one-third for each incorrect response. Its purpose is to evaluate the candidates’ aptitude and problem-solving skills. The examination for this paper is scheduled to take place on May 28, 2023, from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM.

Next Steps
The UPSC IAS Prelims 2023 result will be declared in July 2023 tentatively. Candidates who qualify the prelims exam will be eligible to appear for the mains exam, which is scheduled to be held in September 2023. The mains exam will consist of nine papers: four general studies papers, two optional papers, one essay paper, one language paper and one qualifying English paper. The mains exam will be of descriptive type and will test the candidates’ analytical and writing skills.
