Define Isothermal Zone
An isothermal zone is a zone in the atmosphere in which with the increase in height there is almost a consistency of temperature.
The lower part of the stratosphere just above the tropopause, in general, has “isothermal conditions”. In this zone, the temperature does not increase with height because there is not much Ozone here. In this zone, the temperature does not decrease with height because there is not much Convection in the zone.
These zones provide “ideal flying condition” for aircraft because of the following reasons:
- Absence of Clouds in general.
- Absence of strong Convection currents
- Presence of isothermal conditions.
