UPPCS/UPPSC Mains Exam Pattern
UPPCS/UPPSC Main Examination is not merely a formality for the candidates. It has got a certain significance as it is one of the factors that may help in assessing the eligibility and potential of an individual to be able to achieve success in the Civil Services Examination. Also, once cleared UPPSC Main Examination, finally comes the Personality Test or Interview.
The General Hindi Paper assesses the candidate’s ability to read, write, speak and understand the Hindi language. The General Studies Papers test the candidates’ understanding of Indian polity, economy, international relations, history, and geography. In addition, the Optional Paper allows them to select a subject of their own choice for detailed study.
The UPPSC Main Examination has four papers in total: General Hindi, General Studies Paper-1, General Studies Paper-2, and Optional Paper. The General Hindi paper is compulsory while the other three papers are optional. Candidates have to attempt all the questions in the General Hindi paper.

How many questions should I attempt in UPPSC prelims?
The number of questions to be attempted in the UPPSC Prelims exam depends on many factors like the difficulty level of the paper. There is 100 questions in paper 1 consisting of 200 marks in UPPSC prelims papers. Average cut-off ranges between 110-120 marks. So, you should at least attempt 120 questions in order to be on the safer side.
