Magma is the molten or semi-molten natural substance that gives rise to all igneous rocks. It is of two types- Acidic magma, and Basic magma.
Following is the difference between Acidic magma and Basic magma
ACIDIC MAGMA | BASIC MAGMA |
Acidic magma has a higher concentration of silica and less iron. | Basic magma has a higher concentration of iron and less silica. |
Lighter in colour. | Darker in colour |
It is highly thick/viscous. Hence flows only for a shorter distance before solidifying. | Fluidic in nature. It flows quickly and covers a longer distance before solidifying. |
Generally associated with violent eruptions and elevated landforms such as mountains. | Generally associated with fissure eruptions and forms volcanic plateau/plains. |
E.g. Granite | E.g. Basalt. |
